What if you could take a quick look at the habits that may be helping you stay strong, active and healthy as the years go by?
That’s the idea behind our new How Well Are You Aging? Healthy Aging Score — a free, simple assessment designed especially for adults 50+.
In just a few minutes, you’ll answer around 20 straightforward questions about your everyday lifestyle. There are no complicated medical terms and no blood tests involved. Instead, the assessment looks at eight important areas of healthy aging: movement and activity, strength and mobility, nutrition, sleep and recovery, brain engagement and purpose, social connection, stress and outlook, and healthy everyday habits.
At the end, you’ll receive a personalized Healthy Aging Score from 0 to 100, along with a breakdown of the areas where you’re already doing well and the areas where you may have opportunities to improve.
Why these areas matter
Healthy aging is about much more than simply adding years to your life. The World Health Organization defines healthy aging around maintaining the functional abilities that allow people to do the things that matter to them — including staying mobile, learning, making decisions and maintaining relationships.
The National Institute on Aging likewise points to several practical areas that can support healthy aging, including physical activity, nutritious food choices, adequate sleep, managing health proactively and taking care of mental and social wellbeing.
That’s why our assessment looks at the whole picture, rather than focusing on just one number.
Your score isn’t a judgment
There is no “pass” or “fail.”
Perhaps you discover that your movement and social connection scores are excellent, but your sleep could use some attention. Or maybe your nutrition is strong while strength and mobility are areas you’d like to work on.
The goal is simply to help you identify one or two areas where small, realistic changes could move you in a positive direction.
For example, if strength is one of your lowest-scoring areas, you might explore ways to incorporate appropriate strength-building activities into your routine. If sleep is your opportunity, you might start by improving your evening routine and giving yourself more time for quality sleep.
And you don’t have to change everything at once. NIA notes that even small changes in areas such as physical activity, healthy eating, stress management and social connection can support healthier aging.
